Welcome to ROAM Communities

“Building better mental health In Australian communities”

ROAM communities seeks to work with local communities to build better support for people who experience mental health problems. We achieve this through a variety of services including supported accommodation, education and consultation.

ROAM Communities is founded on the belief that:

  1. People with mental disorders are capable of leading satisfying, productive lives and making meaningful contributions in their communities
  2. There are significant amounts of untapped energy and goodwill in Australian communities surrounding people with mental disorders.

Ian W Webster, AO, Physician and Emeritus Professor of Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of New South Wales states, “ROAM Communities is run by health professionals that have particular familiarity with the real life situations of the people it serves. Such familiarity and wholistic approach make it well placed to really make a difference in the lives of people with mental disorders. I commend it to you as a valuable organisation worthy of support.”

Mental Health First Aid LogoBasic First Aid is the initial help given to someone experiencing a physical health problem before professional help arrives. Mental Health First Aid teaches similar skills for mental disorders.

One in every five Australians suffer mental disorders in any one year. Any one of us may encounter a mental health crisis at home, at work or in a public place. Mental Health issues are not taught in basic first aid, so most of us would not know what to do in what may be a chronically disabling or life threatening situation.

ROAM Communities is proud to offer this multi award winning, internationally acclaimed training program, find out more on our services page.
